I wanted to write a separate post about Leo Tolstoy's work war and peace because it is one of the greatest works of Russian literature. This novel is unique in the history of world literature, telling about the life of Russian society in the era of the war with Napoleon. The work has been a constant success among readers and literary researchers all over the world for many years.
Throughout the work on the novel, Lev Nikolaevich was critical of the work done. In an effort to write a work worthy of attention, he created 15 different versions of the beginning of the novel.
Before publication, the author renamed his work. The meaning of the title "War and Peace" is that the author, using the example of different characters and different social strata of society, showed the attitude of people to the grandiose historical events taking place in the country and the world.
Military actions have become an excellent background for the development of such an important topic as true and false patriotism. The War of 1812 was of great importance in uniting the entire nation in a common patriotic impulse – to expel the enemy from their land. Many representatives of the nobility and the common people were in solidarity in this. All the heroes of the novel somehow passed the test of 1812 and received a moral assessment of their actions.
Lev Nikolaevich put all his aspirations and hopes into the main idea of the work – every person should live by the interests of his people, strive for true harmony, forgetting about the thirst for profit or career ambitions. Love for the motherland, good thoughts, unity with the common people is what the work teaches.
The meaning of the novel lies in the "nationality" since it is the people who are the driving force and the greatness of the nation.
BBC adaptation of war and peace
"War and Peace" is one of the most expensive projects in the history of the BBC. The screenwriter of the mini-series was the legendary Andrew Davis, who worked on exemplary film adaptations: this is "Pride and Prejudice" with Colin Firth and "Vanity Fair". The director was a young theatre director Tom Harper, whose track record at that time the most famous work was the series "Peaky Blinders".I personally think that this is a good film adaptation and it's worth watching.
"Filming took place over a year. Many exterior scenes, including the battles, were filmed in Yugoslavia, with 1000 Yugoslav territorials as extras. Interiors were shot for the most part at Television Centre, but some of the grander locations were provided by Ragley Hall in Warwickshire"- history of BBC.
I also suggest you watch a video that briefly describes the events taking place in the book since the work is very large.

Interesting! I didn't know Tolstoy's name was Lev Nikolaevich! And what a wonderful prospect: "every person should live by the interests of his people, strive for true harmony, forgetting about the thirst for profit or career ambitions"!
